Springfield, Eugene's neighbor, is the second largest city in Lane County, located on Interstate 5, halfway between the coast and the Cascade Mountains. An important part of the Willamette Valley (Western Oregon), Springfield is framed by two major rivers: the McKenzie River, famous for its fishing waters, and the Willamette River. Approximately 57, 065 people reside in Springfield. Due to Springfield's prime location, its residents and visitors enjoy great opportunities for outdoor activities, such is boating, rafting, sailing, and fishing, as well as backpacking, swimming, and hiking. Similarly to Eugene, Springfield is very culturally diverse. During the spring and summer months, some popular attractions around the Eugene/Springfield area are the Saturday market and Farmers market and the popular Oregon Country Fair. Throughout the year, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts offers various Theatrical productions, as well as Cabaret, Ballet, Choir, Opera, and Symphony. There are also many outdoor concerts offered by the Cuthbert Amphitheater.
